Master Gardeners provide community education in many ways. The following list represents only of some of the ways that Williamson County Master Gardeners provide free education to local residents:
The UT/TSU Williamson County Extension receives thousands of horticulture-related calls and emails each year with questions like, “can I grow an avocado in Tennessee?” to “how do I grow grass in the shade?” Williamson County Master Gardeners play a large role in assisting Extension Agents in meeting this demand by researching and responding to questions and assisting with site visits to help trouble-shoot common horticultural problems and educate community members.
Nearly a dozen William County Master Gardeners serve on the Extension office's Diagnostics Team, a group that helps local residents maintain healthy, well-chosen plants for their landscapes and gardens, and identifies and treats plant diseases and insect issues affecting their gardens. This is a free service that WCMGA has offered to Williamson County residents in partnership with UT Extension since 2017. Since 2017, Williamson County Master Gardeners have served as educational public speakers through our Speaker's Bureau program. Through partnerships with Williamson County public libraries, our volunteers provide topical, research-based horticultural information for free to residents through our "Garden Talk" series. Most events are open to the public and can be found on our Events Calendar.
Each year, Williamson County Master Gardeners host a booth at the Williamson County Fair to answer community questions and provide information about our programs. It's a great way for citizens to connect with Master Gardeners and obtain research-based horticultural information.
